MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Delaney Park Little League Families,

I am honored to represent our 400+ current families, plus the thousands of past and future families of Delaney Park Little League.  Little League baseball is a unique youth sport that draws neighborhood kids together on the ballfield.  Delaney Park Little League, aligned with Little League International, believes in the power of youth baseball, softball. and teeball to teach life lessons that build stronger individuals and communities.  My goal is to continue to provide a safe environment where youth players develop skills and have fun!

Delaney Park Little League players had tremendous success on the field in Spring 2024.  The players hung a record eleven (11) Championship banners for All-Stars and Top Team.  Be sure to check them out on your next visit to the park.

Last year, the three areas of focus for my initial term included fields/facilities, skills development, and board recruitment for tee-ball and rookies parents.  Significant progress has been made on all three fronts:

  • Fields/Facilities:  Partnering with the City of Orlando, Orange County, plus the sweat equity of our hard working coaches and volunteers, our fields continue to improve season after season.  Even though many of our fields are the best in Orlando, we continuously seek to improve our fields and facilities.  We are working closely with the City of Orlando on a new Delaney Park Concession stand with restrooms, Light-Up Delaney, and new field locations around downtown.

  • Skills Development:  Softball continues to lead the way with amazing clinics for our young athletes.  We have partnered with professional and high-school coaches to build a talented feeder system as our athletes 'graduate' from Little League and pursue athletics in high school and beyond.  Last season DPLL launched several baseball clinics to resounding acclaim and success.  The DPLL Board has appointed two Player Development Chairs to lead the charge for more clinics for our baseball players.  We also continue to pursue connections with local high schools where Delaney Park Little League alumni represent over 50% of the players.  Last, DPLL is a founding member of Central Florida's District Travel League (aka Coyotes Tournament Team), which gives our more experienced athletes the opportunity to compete at a higher level, without spending thousands of dollars on travel ball.  We have the talent, our goal is to keep them here and playing together with their neighborhood and school mates.

  • Board Recruitment:  I am pleased to say we have been very successful recruiting the next group of board volunteers and leaders. Our board representation at the TeeBall and Rookies level is now strong.  If you are interested in joining, please drop me a line at president@delaneyparkll.org

The three areas above have enough projects left to keep our focus there for the next year.  I look forward to sharing updates as we accomplish these important goals for our community youth.

My family has grown up playing at Delaney Park Little League.  Megan(wife), Ian(14), Finn(11), and Rory(8) are all involved with the league.  My oldest started tee-ball in August 2014.  My first time volunteering was in August 2015 as a tee-ball assistant coach.  Like many of you, I love the game and had to get more involved!  To date, I have managed or coached over 12 teams, including tee-ball, rookies, minors, majors, and intermediate, junior, and senior baseball.

I look forward to leading Delaney Park Little League, alongside you, into Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.

Thank you,

Sean Milligan
